How has HIV changed Magic Johnsons marketability?

 

HIV has changed Magics marketability because he was no longer looked at as just a basketball player he was looked at as an HIV survivor. Hes always been a very marketable man due to him being one the best basketball players to ever play the game. I actually think HIV made him even more marketable because even though people saw him differently in the beginning of the world finding out he had the virus, they soon realized that he was same great person he was before the virus. He's also more marketable because he can be the voice and spokesman for people with HIV since he's so well known people will actually listen to what he has to say. He's fighting the virus while changing other peoples lives at the same time.

Q:How has Magic effectively used his status to influence young people?

A: He has opened up awareness that everyone shouldn't be alienated because of there sickness. They shouldn't be treated differently. You couldn't even tell by just looking at them. He has shown people that you can be normal with little deficiencies. Now people are more aware and wont be as judgemental of others and will be understanding.

Ervin Magic Johnson, 5 time NBA champion, 12 time NBA all star, won a championship and finals MVP all his rookie year. Ervin Johnson is a very accomplished athlete. His accomplishments made him a iconic figure. With all his accomplishments its natural that many people follow him. IN the 1991 NBA season Johnson retired due to coming in contact with HIV. At the time People were uneducated about HIV/AIDS, really they were scared of anyone who had it. But being that Johnson was so much of a iconic figure, he was able to speak out to people, making them aware of sexually transmitted diseases. Since then Magic Johnson has been a advocate for HIV/AIDS prevention and safe sex.

Magic has proved to be a very effective business man. The money he made playing basketball is almost nothing compared to what he's made as a businessman. Few could ever dream of the success Magic has experienced since retiring from the game of basketball. The concept of magicizing has been very beneficial and helped endorse products all over the world. He has his hand in companies like Starbucks, Burger king, AMC, and ESPN. He has share in over 15 companies around the globe and is worth half a billion dollars. He successfully removed misconceptions about HIV/AIDS and has been an effective activist for the last 20 years.

IS MAGIC JOHNSON AN EFFECTIVE BUSINESS MAN?-By Nick Pigozzi  

Though Magic faced much criticism in coming forward to the world revealing that he had contracted the HIV virus from unprotected sex, it made Magic even more successful in the business world. At first Magic was somewhat embarrassed when releasing the big news and he faced much critcism from the public, players in the NBA and even his own team mates, but he stayed strong through the rumors. Johnson endorsed products and charged big fees for making public appearances/speeches. At first he was timid about talking about the subject but Magic grew to embrace HIV and discussed the subject publicly as a very serious matter. Johnson invested money in many companies and even created his own, he founded Magic Johnson enterprises in 1987, hosted a late night talk show the "Magic hour", owned several AMC movie theaters, and over 100 Starbucks locations. His most essential investment would have to be the Magic Johnson foundation which focuses on developing programs to aid community-based organizations that focus on educational, health and social needs of urban locations. At first Magic Johnson wasn't proud of what he had become, but he really turned his life around and made the world a better place, and made millions in the process as a truly successful business man.

I think that Magic Johnson is definitely a successful businessman because he has not only helped under privileged communities, but he has helped companies grown and expand and he has made $500 billion dollars since 2009.  Magic Johnson looks better as a businessman with a suit and tie than he ever did in a Lakers uniform.

Answer: Yes Magic Johnson is a very effective businessman.

After Magic officially announced his retirement from the game he founded the Magic Johnson Enterprises and serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.  Along with that his portfolio includes AMC Magic Johnson movie theaters, over 100 Starbucks, a range of Burger Kings, and thirteen 24 Hour Fitness Magic Sport Centers.
Johnson is also behind the Canyon Capital, an alternative asset manager. It is the largest private equity fund focused on the revitalization of ethically diverse communities.
       As for his television career in 1998 Johnson hosted a late night talk show called "The Magic Hour" on Fox Network.  johnson was then a studio analysis for TNT from 2001-2008. Magic then left for a similar role at ESPN where he is on "GMC NBA Countdown" along with Jon Barry, Michael Wilbon, and Stuart Scott.
       Some people say that he is most affective while he is an HIV activist.  After Magic was diagnosed with the HIV virus he founded the MAgic Johnson Foundation in 1991.  It's a nonprofit foundation focused on developing programs to aid-community based organizations that specialized in education, health, and social needs for urban locations. And briefly Johnson was on the National Commission on AIDS for eight months.
      And finally as for his family playing a role as him as a businessman, he married his longtime girlfriend "Cookie". But in a previous relationship Magic had a son named Andre who is currently the Vice President of Business Development for Magic Johnson Enterprises.

      Magic Johnson has always been a successful man. During his basketball career he was a twelve time NBA all star, three time league MVP, three time finals MVP, he has won five championships, and has many more achievements to his name. When Magic got the HIV virus he used his status as a superstar to his advantage and became the face of HIV/AIDS. Magic knew many kids look up to celebrities like him so he used that to get young people's attention. Magic's number one goal was to inform kids about the various ways to get the HIV virus. Magic got HIV from unprotected sex so he used his status and fame to preach safe sex.

Magic Johnson was arguably one of the best Basketball players of all time. because of that he was a role model to millions of young people. when he contracted HIV he was surrounded by rumors and misconceptions. people were afraid to go near him because they didn't know how HIV was transferred, they thought he was going to die. magic used his influence to educate young people about HIV, he taught people about how it is transferred and what treatments are available and most importantly how to prevent the spread of HIV.

Answer: In my opinion, Magic's family has been extremely influential in his career as a business man. Ever since he finished his playing career because of his HIV contraction, he has become a business man because he wants to promote awareness of the virus and also safe sex. His wife specifically, has been extremely supportive because even though they may have had bad moments in their past, she has helped him conquer the virus and not let the virus take a toll on his social and psychological well being. In addition to his family giving support to Magic, they have begun to work with him to provide more support and advice to help him make good decisions regarding the success of his business and branding.
