The Announcement- Sarah Felvey

Has Magic's family influenced his success in the business and entertainment world?
Absolutely.  Magic said himself many times that he doesn't know what he would have done if Cookie had left him all of those years ago.  At that turning point in his life his career could have gone two ways, down into the ground or up because the sky was the limit.  Since HIV/AIDS was such an evolving epidemic at the time there was need for a spokes person for the disease.  Magic Johnson was the perfect candidate.  Johnson, a father, husband and straight man could have folded under the criticism and hate he received from society, but he didn't.  He stood brave for his family, fans and fellow strugglers to change the way the world viewed the HIV/AIDS virus, a seeming impossible task, but he did it.  Magic not only found success in basketball but the business world, long after his basketball career was over.  He was able to become a billionaire by marketing his family values and good guy image to society.  He also was smart with his investments and public appearances always making sure
that it was a strategic move for himself and his family.  Without his family I believe Magic would have had no drive to be the best.  Magic is currently living with HIV and currently more successful than ever.

  1. I think that it is definitely appropriate to say that the Magic Johnson that we know today would be very different if it weren't for his family. This is a good example that no matter who you are, family is the most important thing you will ever have. -Nathan Wojcik
