A.) Magic johnson was an outstanding basketball player and probably one of the best that ever played the game. Its easy to say he already had a young fan base during his prime in the NBA. When he contracted the HIV virus, at first, his young fan base was turned off by the fact that he had this disease that was mostly thought to be only for gays. For the weeks and months after his announcement, he lost respect form his young fan base. When he made an appearance in the NBA All-Star game he regained that respect. He used his status to inspire a group of young people that he wouldn't usually reach out too. He basically showed you can do anything.
I agree with what you are getting at with your response. I have noticed too that his fan base has grown exponentally because of his campaign for AIDS/HIV awareness. I like too how he has come to show that getting a disease like HIV can happen to anyone and people need to make good decions.
